Academic Excellence

99% of Catholic high school graduates
are accepted into college

Academic Excellence

Academic excellence is the hallmark of Catholic education. Parents choose Catholic schools for the faith formation, high academic standards, values-added education, and safe school environment. Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Washington are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The curriculum, instruction and assessment are based on national standards set by professional organizations and focus on the individual growth of each child.  Since 1982, when the United States Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence was established, Catholic schools in the archdiocese have received the honor 23 times.

Catholic schools work; they succeed in educating children. 99% of Catholic high school graduates are accepted into college. That’s compared to 44.1% of public school graduates who go on to college. (Source: NCEA)

Our schools in the Archdiocese of Washington offer a diverse, multicultural education environment. Currently in our school population, 47% of students are non-White, 33% are non-Catholic.

Our educational practices and school-wide programs are inclusive and differentiated to meet each student’s learning style. Inclusive education initiatives match students who have special needs with resources (tutors, physical and behavioral therapists, psychologists, etc.) so the students can be an integral part of a general classroom.

Academic Excellence

Curriculum, instruction and assessment are focused on the growth of each unique child

"Our schools are an oasis of hope in an otherwise desert of intellectual, spiritual and personal support, and that’s attributable to the quality of our Catholic schools; the academic excellence and faith formation found there,” says Cardinal Donald Wuerl. Under our Lord Jesus Christ, the archdiocesan schools are dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence in the Catholic tradition. Our schools are fully accredited and all teachers are certified in their specific areas. With our strong educational foundation and rigorous academic programs, our students are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of a changing multicultural society in the light of Christ’s teachings.
