Catechist certification in the Archdiocese of Washington is obtained by completing a series of required courses. Exemptions from taking courses are now available through online credit-by-exam assessments in the following five areas: Creed, Morality, Prayer, Sacraments and Scripture.
The online assessment exams are comprised of 45 multiple choice questions. The passing score is 36 correct answers. Persons scoring at or above this score are exempt from taking the course. The results of the exam are reported instantly after the test is completed. Exams may not be retaken within a six month period. The Office for Religious Education will not accept the results of an exam unless they judge the exam to have been properly completed.
