How does the teacher hiring process work?
Application materials for Archdiocese of Washington schools are available on-line. You only need to complete one application packet for the archdiocese. Your information then will be included on a list that is updated monthly and sent to all Catholic schools within the archdiocese. In addition, you are encouraged to contact principals directly to inquire about openings they may have. All principals make their own hiring decisions within diocesan guidelines, which includes diocesan approval of new teachers for diocesan schools. Independent Catholic schools within the archdiocese have their own employment applications.

What are the degree and certification requirements for teaching in a Catholic school?
Teachers must have at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to teach in schools in the Archdiocese of Washington.

Archdiocese of Washington certification:
Teachers in archdiocesan elementary schools must meet the archdiocese’s certification requirements within three years of their date of hire. If you have questions about this process, please contact Liz Whelan, Director of Professional Development, at 301-853-4552. If you are interested in teaching in a Catholic high school in the archdiocese or an independent Catholic elementary school, please contact the school directly for more information about their requirements for teachers.
