History of Giving

Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, in his Encyclical Letter, God is Love, reminds us that the love God lavishes upon us, we in turn must share with others.

Our love for others can be demonstrated in many ways: a kind word, a helping hand, a gift of time, sharing a talent, and using our treasure to help others through the good works that we do as one community, our Archdiocese.

The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is our opportunity as Catholics of the Archdiocese of Washington to join together to show our love for others by sharing our gifts of treasure. All 140 parishes participate in the Appeal to help support the Archdiocese’s charitable works.  Your gift of treasure brings a gift of hope to someone in need. For example, it may help one shelter to stay open for an evening, keep one student in Catholic school, counsel one homeless person, and comfort a neighbor suffering from one of life’s tragedies.
