Tim Russert’s Death a Great Loss to our Community/Memorial Fund Established

June 13, 2008

The following statement is from Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl:

"It was with deep sorrow that I learned of the news of Tim Russert’s death. He will be remembered for his professional work – the skill with which he handled many challenging interviews and situations, and the intelligent and thoughtful insights he brought to the news. More importantly, however, he will be remembered not for the person he was on camera, but for the person he was when the cameras were off.

"Tim Russert was a man of unfailing generosity and kindness, a man of deep faith and a man devoted to his family. He cherished the people who made a difference in his life and remembered their generosity to him by being generous to others.

"One example is the Sr. Mary Lucille, RSM Outstanding Teacher Award in the Archdiocese of Washington. He established this award in honor of this favorite teacher who challenged him and convinced him that he could make a difference in the world. For 11 years, Catholic school teachers from the archdiocese who exemplify many of the attributes Mr. Russert admired in Sister Mary Lucille have been honored because of him.

"May Tim rest in God’s eternal embrace and may our prayers be with him and his family."

The Archdiocese of Washington Tim Russert Memorial Fund has been established to honor Tim's commitment to Catholic education and the children of our city. Contributions will assist low income children in attending Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Washington.

Contributions may be sent to Archdiocese of Washington Tim Russert Memorial Fund, PO Box 29260, Washington, DC 20017-0260.
