Episcopal Ordination of Very Rev. J. Augustine Di Noia to be Held in Archdiocese of Washington

The episcopal ordination of Very Reverend J. Augustine Di Noia, O.P., who today was named Secretary for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments by Pope Benedict XVI, will be held on July 11, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
“The Archdiocese of Washington is honored to be a part of this ordination that means so much for the Church Universal and for the Church in this country,” said Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl from San Antonio, where he is attending a meeting of the United States bishops.
“Archbishop-elect Di Noia’s appointment is a cause for great joy, and a reflection of his many talents and years of dedicated service to the Church,” Archbishop Wuerl added.
Archbishop-elect Di Noia worked in Washington, DC for many years before being named the undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in April 2002. He served as executive director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops from 1993 to 2001, and also taught systematic theology at the Dominican House of Studies; was an adjunct professor at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies; and was director of the Intercultural Forum for Studies in Faith and Culture at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center.
