Keeping safe during flu season
Recognizing parishioner concerns about the spread of regular influenza as well as the H1N1 flu, the Archdiocese of Washington is providing these resources for families, parishes and schools.
The material is based upon current information and guidance from organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Information and recommendations will be updated as appropriate.
Preventing the flu
Practice good hygiene
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
- Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve if you don't have a tissue
- Put used tissues in a waste basket
- Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing, using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand cleaner
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, which can spread germs
- Stay home if you are sick for 7 days after your symptoms begin or until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours, whichever is longer (recommended by the CDC).
